About
My name is Badar Jahangir Kayani but you can call me Badar (pronounced: butter). My educational background and career focus is towards electrical engineering with a specialization in embedded and connected devices. I have worked for a variety of consumer electronics companies, assisting them in developing well engineered products. Outside of work, I explore my engineering and artistic interests through various projects.
Background
I was born and raised in Islamabad, Pakistan where I spent the first 18 years of my life. I had a curious and inquisitive mind from the beginning and my dad enabled and supported my endeavors. I would always be more interested to open things up to see how they worked. Uptil 7th grade, my skills were limited and more of my projects were exploratory surgeries of various electronics. But after 7th grade, I quickly aquired a variety of skills and started to make things. This trend continued for the years to come, with the quality and complexity of my projects increasing day by day.
By junior year of high school, I had become a regular contributor of the popular maker website, Instructables. I was inspired by the projects posted by people in America and saw the myriad resources they had at their disposal for their projects. In parallel, I was thinking about college and was aspiring for the best education I could get access to. As a result, I ended up applying to colleges in the USA for my undergraduate studies.
I came to America in 2016 to do my BS in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio. CWRU has this amazing maker space called think[box] that I started to use immediately. My projects continued alongside my education and I was able to build complex contraptions using the infinite resources at my disposal. My high school dream had come true.
After graduating from BS, in an intereting turn of events, I also did my MS in electrical engineer. That bought me time to dodge the job market slowdown due to COVID-19. After my MS, I was fortunate enough to get hired by a small company in Columbus, Ohio called Noxgear in 2021. And the rest is history.
Now, I am slowly working my way towards achieving my goals in life. One of these goals is to become a capable engineer. And for that, I will be continuing self-learning through my projects and finding job opportunities where I can learn from others.
